SEC and FSA ban short selling on financials

The US Securities and Exchanges Committee (SEC) and UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) have both announced temporary bans on the short selling of financial stocks, as they look to halt the slide in bank equity prices.

Further monoline downgrades likely

Moody's has put the last two remaining 'legacy' monoline insurers to maintain a Aaa rating - Assured Guaranty and Financial Security Assurance (FSA) - on watch for a downgrade.

FSA to order CFD disclosure

The UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) will treat contracts for difference (CFDs) in the same way as shareholdings for disclosure purposes, it announced today.
