FSA enlists industry experts

The FSA has hired three senior advisers with industry expertise for its wholesale and institutional business unit

LONDON – The UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) has hired three new senior advisers from within the industry. Jeremy Bennett, David Smith and Simon Stockwell will provide additional market experience to the FSA’s wholesale and institutional business unit.

Sally Dewar, director of wholesale and institutional markets at the FSA, says: “These appointments further underline the FSA’s commitment to having the right mix of people with market experience and regulatory backgrounds in the organisation.”

Bennett is a former co-head of European fixed income and emerging markets at Credit Suisse First Boston, with particular expertise in structured products and derivatives, and bank control infrastructure.

Stockwell is a previous head of Lehman Brothers’ European corporate advisory business, with a background in market compliance and surveillance. Stockwell has also worked as a deputy director and surveillance head at the old Securities and Futures Authority, moving to head the FSA’s complex groups department after the Securities and Futures Authority was merged with the FSA in 1998.

Smith was a senior partner at law firm KPMG in London, responsible for forensic accounting. Before that he served in the firm’s Middle East offices responsible for oil, gas and banking clients and investigations.
