Risk.net poll: global Sifi status is desirable, say 31% of respondents

Nearly a third of respondents to a Risk.net poll see advantages in being labelled a global systemically important financial institution

Thirty-one percent of respondents to a Risk.net poll believe it is desirable to be categorised as a global systemically important financial institution (G-Sifi) – a moniker some firms believe would help them raise funds at cheaper levels, because of an implicit understanding that authorities would not allow them to fail.

The result is at odds with the intention of the G-Sifi rules – which are meant to act as an incentive for large, systemically important firms to reduce their size and complexity
