Register of Strategic Technology Risks

This chapter will pull together the risks identified throughout this book into a consolidated strategic technology risk register (STRR) as a practical guide to assist boards and senior management in developing a strategic technology risk management framework (STRMF). Although voluminous, readers should note that the register is not comprehensive,11 Failure to include a particular strategic risk is solely the fault/responsibility of the author. but rather should be seen as a starting point for producing an organisation-specific STRR. It should also be noted for convenience that the chapter contains some descriptions of key strategic risks that relate to business, summarised from McConnell (2016). This will permit managers to place technology risks within a wider strategic perspective – which is, after all, the goal of this book.

It is important to note that this chapter deals only with strategic IT risks and not operational IT risks, of which there are a great deal more. Furthermore, it is concerned only with risks that are somewhat generic in nature, since each firm will have its own set of specific strategic business and IT risks.
