Assets invested globally in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and exchange-traded products (ETPs) hit a record high of $2.09 trillion at the end of the first quarter of 2013 following net inflows of $73.4 billion during the quarter, according to research from ETFGI.

Figures from the ETF research company also show that by the end of March, there were 4,778 ETFs and ETPs. During March, equity ETFs and ETPs gathered the largest net inflows of $17 billion, followed by fixed income with $5.6 billion, and
