While Basel II is pointing the way to a more consistent and integrated approach to risk, many financial institutions struggle to co-ordinate analysis and consolidate results across even a single department such as trading or asset and liability management (ALM), says Shawn Convery, founder and chairman of new London-based software supplier Almonde. “Most institutions really have no idea where profits are coming from because they have trouble adjusting margins for costs and risks,” he says.
