US banks’ cash holdings jump $79 billion in Q2

Cash reserves up 4%, in biggest rise since 2023

Cash holdings at major US banks rose by $79 billion in the second quarter, reaching $2.04 trillion. The 4% increase marks the largest quarterly rise since the end of 2023.

Risk Quantum analysis of the 14 banks subject to the liquidity coverage ratio shows that half boosted their cash holdings over the period. BNY led with a $34 billion jump, reaching its largest cash holdings since Q1 2022 at $153
