Social media brings new risks to a bank, but also benefits

Unlike the nine other entries in this year's Top 10 op risks list, the growth of social media brings operational risk managers opportunities as well as worries. Finance is not the only industry still coming to terms with the shift in the information economy which social media represents, and the loss of control, speed of transmission, and restrictions on content are all causing problems, and attracting regulatory attention. But there are areas in which social media could also be a source of hope
