Focus on cyber threat shouldn't mean ignoring physical risks

Cyber security has risen to the top of the agenda this year, described as the "single most important new threat to financial stability" by CFTC chairman Timothy Massad in late 2014. But when dealing with the admittedly serious problems of denial-of-service attacks, loss of data, ransomware, phishing and spear phishing, operational risk managers in 2015 risk losing sight of less technically exciting, but equally vital, security threats on what network engineers would call the physical layer.
