Tackling substance misuse "too costly for banks"

Scale of problem seen as too great to address directly


The scale of alcohol and drug misuse in the banking industry is discouraging firms from addressing the problem because of the potential costs involved, a London conference on substance abuse heard yesterday.

John McMahon, chief executive officer at Iloumanate, a consultancy that aims to reduce the cost of alcohol misuse in the workplace, told the conference there was a strong business case for tackling alcohol-related costs at work.
