Ticking the boxes

Suggestions of what investors should include in a due diligence questionnaire vary. The Alternative Investment Management Association’s (AIMA) illustrative questionnaire covers most aspects of a fund’s operation – from the basics, such as address, history, ownership and structure of the management company, to track records and investment strategy.

Patrick Fenal, chief executive of Unigestion, says the company began using AIMA’s guides when they were published and has found the information crucial.

The UK Hedge Funds Standards Board was set up to guide best practice. It produced a set of 15 key issues for hedge funds and some of the industry’s biggest players have signed up to adhere to those standards.
