Keeping operational risk teams from growing too large could be the key to healthy op risk management, according to panellists at the OpRisk Europe conference in London yesterday.

Having too large an operational risk team could encourage business line managers to pass any risk issues over to the risk department, rather than deal with it themselves – an outcome that is not ideal, Chris Rachlin, head of operational risk in the UK at HSBC, told delegates.
