SEC appoints deputy chief of staff


The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has appointed Erica Williams as its deputy chief of staff. Williams has been on SEC chair Mary Schapiro's staff since February 2011, focussing on enforcement and regulatory issues.

Before joining Schapiro's staff, she worked as assistant chief litigation counsel in the enforcement division's trial unit for seven years. Before joining the SEC, Williams worked as a commercial litigator in private practice.

Williams replaces James Burns, who becomes
