Giulio Mignola entered the field of op risk from academia, where he completed his doctorate in theoretical physics at Turin and spent some time at Cern, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, in Geneva. In 1997, he felt ready for a new challenge and joined the world of risk management at Sanpaolo IMI. He hasn’t looked back. “I had been doing physics for 10 years and was given a great opportunity to make a big leap into the financial world,” he says.
