Germany has more banks using the advanced measurement approach (AMA) to operational risk than any other country in the world. Taking the AMA as the gold standard of operational risk excellence – as the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision intended – this means the Germans are the de facto world champions at op risk. Most of the largest US banks will have barely begun to grapple with their AMA parallel runs for Basel II before Basel III is upon us. And in the UK underwhelming take-up of the AMA
