Risk managers at Brazilian bank Bradesco, in line with many peers in developing countries, have been looking on at events in the developed world's banks with some stupefaction. As the debate in the US and Europe rages over issues such as nationalization and the creation of bad banks to absorb dubious assets, Brazilian risk managers are, with hindsight, grateful for tight national supervision.
