The global health crisis precipitated by the Covid‑19 pandemic has dealt a sharp, swift blow to the global economy. As companies emerge from the initial shock, Fitch Solutions surveyed its global client base to understand how business leaders view the economic, business and banking sector impacts of Covid‑19, and their prospects for the future.

The fifth edition of Fitch Solutions’ Pulse Survey – conducted between April 6 and 21, 2020 – attracted a record number of responses from clients in 64 countries, spanning sectors from banking and financial services to construction, pharmaceuticals and government.

Among the insights, the survey reveals:

  • The impact on businesses and their views on recovery
  • Expectations around the easing of lockdown measures
  • Predictions for the scale of a global recession
  • The most significant economic effects in the next 12 months
  • The downside risks for the banking sector.
