QIS 5 specifications add complexity

The European Commission (EC) has published its final technical specifications for Solvency II’s fifth quantitative impact study, which greatly increase the complexity and computation requirements for insurers taking part.

Originally conceived as a dry run of the directive ahead of implementation, it is now to be a “test” and “should not be seen as purporting to represent or prejudge the final outcome of the discussions on the Level 2 implementing measures”, according to the published document.
