EC expert group recommends less hedge fund regulation

The European Commission’s (EC) expert group on hedge funds has stressed that more regulation is not needed, and that barriers should be removed to allow institutional investors to market products throughout the European Union (EU).

In a report released today that analyses challenges facing the investment fund industry, the expert group’s main message was that “hedge fund business is maturing in a way that does not call for additional specific legislation of hedge fund participants or investment strategies at a European level”.
