EU lawmaker calls for review of Luxembourg’s cross-border rules

A prominent member of the European Parliament is calling on the bloc’s executive branch to “examine” whether Luxembourg has side-stepped a European law aimed at restricting cross-border lending by foreign banks. 

The latest version of the Capital Requirements Directive (CRD VI), finalised in 2024, requires foreign banks that handle ‘core banking services’ – including deposit taking and lending –
