Client/server meets the hedge fund

When I was introduced to the concept of Client-Server many years ago at Goldman Sachs, the analogy of the boss and the butler was used. Yet in recent years, watching the various technology offerings to the hedge-fund world, I have started to wonder exactly who is the client, and more interestingly still, who is the boss?
