ICBA slams Basel II NPR

Independent Community Bankers of America commends the banking agencies' proposal to retain the Tier I leverage ratio and the transitional safeguards as part of the implementation of Basel II capital rules

A last-minute response to the Notification of Proposed Rulemaking (NPR) on the implementation of the Basel Accord in the US has slammed the suggestion that the US should adopt a similar approach to Basel II as the rest of the world.

The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) commended the banking agencies' proposal to retain the Tier I leverage ratio and the transitional safeguards as part of the implementation of Basel II capital rules, and urged them to resist calls to lower capital
