The year’s Credit Analyst Awards come on the eve of the FSA’s decisions on how banks’ research analysts will be regulated. There has been speculation since the start of the year that this regulation, which is being discussed under consultation paper 205 (CP205), could lead to the end of sell-side credit research as we know it.

Banks, who by and large escaped from the US regulators with little more than slapped wrists and fines, suddenly had to work out new permutations for how they could provide
