EU pushing to implement corporate governance plan

Brussels -- The EU Commission is pushing hard to finalise its implementation plans for its Corporate governance and company law action plan. Although the EU published the plan in May, a summary of the results of the consultation process was not posted on its website until late November. The EU Parliament also held an early December hearing on the subject.

The EU Commission received, from 17 countries, 114 responses to its consultation. More than 25% of the responses came from UK-based authors. According to Erich Eggenhofer, desk officer at the Internal Market Directorate at the European Commission, the first priorities within the Corporate governance action plan include a recommendation designed to promote the role of non-executive or supervisory directives, and a recommendation that would provide shareholders more information and influence on
