Return of the Basel Bill


Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee chairman Spencer Bachus (AL) and Carolyn Maloney (NY), a member of the Subcommittee on Domestic and International Monetary Policy Ranking, put forward the bill on the basis that they want to make sure US banks are not competitively disadvantaged by being forced to implement Basel II. The bill is co-sponsored by House Financial Services Committee chairman Michael Oxley (OH) and Ranking Member Barney Frank (MA).
