US data security: changes afoot

WASHINGTON, DC – The US House of Representatives held another hearing on data security issues in early May, in advance of discussion on a number of bills on the issue in this legislative term.

During the hearing, Assessing Data Security: Preventing Breaches and Protecting Sensitive Information, Delaware congressman Michael Castle noted that a bill is being drafted that would require companies to implement the kinds of sensitive data security procedures and systems that banks have recently been forced to implement. "In addition," said Castle, will define what constitutes a breach so that affected entities, regulators and consumers can be notified when appropriate and in a co-ordinated
