Several recent research reports have highlighted the importance of having a structured products capability for financial services companies looking to offer a comprehensive range of investment options to their clients. So has the structured products industry finally found a place in the mainstream?
In Asia, a report from research firm Cerulli has found that fund managers expect to show creativity in product innovation in order to fend off competition from structuring banks. The Cerulli survey suggests that more than 70% of 20 fund managers polled are "concerned" about the widespread availability of structured notes, while 80% of respondents said they expect structured notes to at least partially replace mutual funds in the medium term.
