US Treasury targets terrorism financing

WASHINGTON -- The US Treasury said in July it had launched a co-ordinated strategy to combat terrorist financing. Its 2002 annual report on efforts to prevent illegal transfers of money said the Treasury would apply the lessons learned from the US government’s strategies against money laundering to deny terrorist groups resources. The Treasury also said it would increase efforts to combat other areas of money laundering, such as the financing of drug cartels. US Treasury undersecretary Jimmy
