In mid-July, an official from the Bank of Italy posted a paper, The modelling of operational risk: experience with the analysis of the data collected by the Basel Committee, which is beginning to garner attention in international op risk circles.

A spanner in the works

The US and Germany are in a standoff over Basel II’s capital charge calculation for SME lending. Without a compromise this month, the issue threatens to derail implementation of the Accord and the European Directive.

Running out of time

Will banking supervisors be able to implement Basel II in time? Even when they agree on what they want, the differences between the G-10’s regulatory regimes make a level playing field unlikely.
