Metro Bank CRO cites virtues of a clean slate

A new launch allows a bank to set its own risk culture from scratch – but newly launched banks may be a target for fraudsters, says Mike Hudson

Launching a new bank from scratch means firms can avoid some of the risks associated with established banking businesses but increases others, says Mike Hudson, chief risk officer at Metro Bank, the UK's first new retail bank in a century.

A particular advantage is the ability to set a risk culture at the outset, rather than inherit and attempt to adapt a culture that may have existed at a legacy
