Tough 2007 dents utilities' confidence for 2008

A survey by the UK's Chartered Management Institute has revealed that managers in the utilities sector believe 2008 will be a tough year for business, due to the impacts of rising business costs, higher levels of debt and a shortage of management skills.

The survey shows that only one in three senior executives in the sector are confident about the year ahead. 47% say the rising cost of energy will impact negatively on their business, while 42% blame the credit squeeze in financia- markets.
