Buy-side risk managers are asking whether record rate hikes will successfully tame inflation, or whether economies will instead drift into a period of stagflation in the coming months.

The outward signs suggest inflation may have peaked. US consumer price inflation for the year to April fell to 4.9%, down from a high of 9.1% in June last year. The European Union has seen inflation fall too. But buy-siders are yet to be convinced that inflation is necessarily under control.
