LSE Borsa Italiana Merger to open up UK Market to Securitised Derivatives

Structured products will be available to both London Stock Exchange (LSE) and Borsa Italiana investors following the merger of the two exchanges in June. The products, coined as securitised derivatives by both exchanges, will be traded on the UK and Italian markets using the new TradElect trading platform.

The platform, which was launched in June on the LSE, allows a single point of entry to both exchanges and will replace Borsa Italiana’s trading platforms by the end of 2008. The new platform will allow investors to trade all asset classes from both UK and Italian markets. Borsa Italiana’s existing trading platforms include the securitised derivatives platform SeDex.

The linking and integration of the two equity derivatives product offerings will create a larger derivatives exchange customer
