CBOE prepares for battle

With the launch of the Boston Options Exchange on the horizon and the International Securities Exchange’s attempt to break into index options trading, how will the Chicago Board Options Exchange fare? John Ferry reports

The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) is currently trying to fend off twothreats: it is petitioning the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to denythe Boston Options Exchange’s (Box) request for permission to operate asan equity options exchange; and it is seeking to head off the International SecuritiesExchange’s (ISE) effort to get the SEC to let it and other exchanges competeto make markets in certain index options – which are currently only listedon the CBOE.
