Exchanges gradually gain pace

After much talk of new trading solutions for German power, only one platform – EEX – has made significant progress, although the new clearing solution from Clearing Bank Hannover seems to be picking up steam. James Ockenden reports

With credit problems gripping energy firms worldwide, the need for clearing and exchange solutions in Europe’s biggest power market led to a rash of proposals during the past year from brokers and existing exchanges alike. A consortium of German banks launched Clearing Bank Hannover (CBH), which aimed to become the central power clearing hub for Germany.
