TSOs unite in step towards pan-European power market

The European Commission has given the go ahead for the creation of the Capacity Allocation Service Company for the Central West-European market (CASC-CWE) in a move towards a regional electricity market across five European countries.

CASC-CWE will involve transmission system operators (TSOs) in: Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands and will operate a standardised system across all five countries.

The company will act as a single auction office and aims to operate services for the yearly and monthly allocation of power transmission capacity on the common borders of the five countries. Auctions will commence at the end of November.
