ECX to launch spot contracts in March

The European Climate Exchange (ECX) and ICE Futures Europe will launch daily futures contracts for EUA and CER emissions credits "sometime in March", according to ECX CEO Patrick Birley.

The spot contracts, known as the ICE ECX EUA Daily Futures Contract and the ICE ECX CER Daily Futures Contract, will be physically delivered by the transfer of credits directly from the seller to the buyer.

The principles of the delivery process will be the same as the existing ICE ECX EUA and CER Futures Contracts (the selling clearing member will deliver to ICE Clear Europe who will then deliver to the buying clearing member) but the process is shortened to reflect the daily nature of the
