Australian coal futures set for debut

Globalcoal, the electronic marketplace for thermal coal, and IntercontinentalExchange (Ice), an operator of global derivatives exchanges, will launch a new coal futures contract in July. The two companies will also launch physically settled ARA (Antwerp Rotterdam Amsterdam) coal futures later in the year.

The Australian Securities Exchange also plans to launch a thermal coal futures contract in the third quarter, sources say, but no details on the contract have been released.
