CBOT to list electronic ag futures

The Chicago Board of Trade will list agricultural futures on its electronic trading platform from August, in a move it says was driven by customer demand.

Starting on August 1, the exchange will list futures contracts in corn, oats, rice, soybean oil, soybean meal and wheat on its e-cbot electronic trading platform during open outcry trading hours of 0930 to 1315.

The products will also be offered on e-cbot from 1830 to 0600 Chicago time, to allow European and Asian investors to participate.

Bernard Dan, chief executive of CBOT, said that the move was "driven by strong customer demand". He added: "We believe it will create a single pool of liquidity, encompassing both the open auction and electronic environments, in a move that is geared toward attracting new users from around the world.”
