Offshore distributors voice fears over UAE sales practices

Some distributors say a combination of poor products, deficient adviser education and high commission fees in the United Arab Emirates could spell trouble for the structured products market. Are their fears justified? Vita Millers reports

Structured product sales in Dubai are thriving

Some offshore distributors of structured products are scared for their industry. Not as a result of disappointing sales volumes - on the contrary, the booming market in Dubai alone is worth an estimated £2.5 billion - but because they say relatively relaxed regulation has resulted in a freewheeling atmosphere that has led to some poorly constructed products and sales practices appearing in Dubai and the wider United Arab Emirates (UAE) markets.
