Structured Products Europe: Should the scope of Prips be extended?

The European Commission’s proposal on packaged retail investment products was a hot topic at the Structured Products Europe conference, with seconded national expert Tim Shakesby saying some European politicians believe the scope of the regulation should be extended to cover all retail investment products


New European regulations on packaged retail investment products (Prips) should be agreed by legislators by the third quarter of next year, according to Tim Shakesby, seconded national expert, internal market and services, at the European Commission (EC) in Brussels. But a number of issues need to be resolved first - including the exact scope of the regulation.

During his keynote address at the Structured Products Europe conference, held in London on October 13, Shakesby said there was broad
