It has been a tough year to award prizes for innovation when the word is considered a dirty one in so many quarters. In bull markets, innovation is often the ‘tinsel' and is presented as way of justifying fees. In bear markets, the safer bet is to offer the safe bet, and that means no room for creativity. But the truth is, it is more important to innovate when markets are rocky and reeling. And this is even more the case when interest rates are low.
