The US regulator's latest letter on structured products adds a new twist to the debate, calling for pricing disclosure

SEC wants greater pricing transparency for structured products

Industry participants say a letter from the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which was sent last month to leading distributors of structured retail products and called for issuers of structured notes to improve product pricing transparency, casts a new slant on the structured products debate.

"We believe issuers should consider prominently disclosing the difference between the public offering price of the note and the issuer or its affiliate's estimate of the fair value of the note,"
