Absa to launch precious metal ETNs in South Africa

South Africa’s Absa Capital is preparing to launch silver and platinum exchange-traded notes (ETNs) on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE). The products are the first conventional ETNs to list in South Africa and could be the start of a significant new market segment.
Vladimir Nedeljkovic, associate principal for exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and index products at Absa Capital in Johannesburg, says his team is finalising the regulatory requirements on the new products.
