58% of structured product complainants to receive compensation, MAS

Fifty-eight percent of investors who filed complaints on being sold DBS High Notes 5, Lehman Minibonds, and Merrill Lynch Series 3 LinkEarner notes will receive full or partial compensation, according to the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). Almost all elderly investors with little income, little formal education and investment inexperience have been offered a settlement.

One quarter of complainants (1282) will receive full settlement, while 33% (1692) will receive partial compensation. Of the 835 complaints received on DBS High Notes 8% of investors will receive full compensation, 9% partial (50% and above) and 7% partial (below 50%). Of the 4,141 complaints received on Lehman Minibonds 30% will receive full settlement, 22% partial (50% and above) and 15% partial
