Hwang-DBS launches structured fund in Malaysia

Malaysian investment manager Hwang-DBS Investment Management Berhad (HDBSIM) has launched the Hwang-DBS Global Banks Structured Fund (GBSF). The two-year unit trust structured product is a closed-ended, capital protected investment linked to the performance of three global bank stocks – HSBC, Citigroup and Bank of America.

HSBC is the sole distributor of the fund and also provides the capital protection. The product invests in call options which provide exposure to a basket of the three stocks. The AAA-rated bank will invest a portion of the capital raised into MYR-denominated money market instruments which will provide the capital protection over the two-year investment duration of the fund. Upon maturity, investors will receive the initial capital plus any potential capital gains.
