S&P launches ESG India index

S&P, risk advisory firm Crisil and social and environmental research firm KLD Research and Analytics have launched the S&P ESG India Index, which comprises companies whose business strategies and performance demonstrate a high level commitment to meeting environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards. The investable index is designed to underlie financial products such as ETFs and structured products.

The index, which is sponsored by the International Finance Corp (IFC), a member of the World Bank group, comprises 50 Indian companies drawn from the largest 500 companies listed on the National Stock Exchange of India through a two stage screening process, which yields a score, or an evaluation for each of the companies in the universe.
