CEBS publishes notes from hearing on own funds

The Committee of European Banking Supervisors (CEBS), which monitors and contributes to EU banking directives, has published a summary of the Own Funds hearing, which took place in London on June 11.

The notes on the Towards Further Convergence on Own Funds in Europe meeting will form part of CEBS’s report on whether further convergence of the prudential treatment of hybrids is possible.

The event was held because of concerns about the EU’s definition of own funds, especially the classification of Tier 1 hybrid capital instruments.

Discussion focused on how to achieve convergence in the treatment of Tier 1 hybrids in Europe. Comments also concerned other differences highlighted in CEBS’s
