European buyside survey provides encouragement

A survey of investors in European asset-backed securities (ABS) published by Barclays Capital in December provided grounds for qualified optimism about the year ahead.

The survey shows that investors expect to grow their portfolios despite recent market turmoil, although growth will be slower than in the recent past.

Investors polled by the bank said they expected to grow their portfolios 10% in 2008, down from 15% in last year's survey.

Respondents said they expected primary issuance to fall 18%
