Rating outlook attracts complaint


The downgrade of RWE by Moody’s has led to grumbling over whether downward revisions in ratings should be accompanied by a negative outlook. Downgrading a credit and immediately placing it back on negative outlook does nothing to clear up investor uncertainty, argue some bankers.

RWE’s €8.5 billion acquisition of Innogy resulted in the utility group being downgraded by Moody’s to A1 on negative outlook last month. Moody’s was looking at scrapping outlooks altogether, but changed its mind after
